Belgrad, taxidrivers and gays

Irja in Belgrade Arena tonight.

Gotta hate the taxidrivers. When we arrived yesterday, we took a taxi from the airport. Decided to be clever and asked at the airport how much would it be from the airport to the city centre. They told us that is was no more than, say 1000 dinars. Hopped into the taxi. Welcome, said the taxi driver. His face was shining and he reminded me of Joáo, my portuguese ex-boyfriend. By the way, the taxi drivers in Lisbon are also horrible. Joáo hated them and he always yelled at them cause the taxi drivers were rude and eager to rob you. That was also the reason why he never took taxi when he was drunk. He didn't want to deal with the taxi drivers and so he drove, no matter how drunk he was. Anyways, we took a taxi from the Belgrad airport and the taxi driver was smiling. You're here beacuse of the song? he asked. Yeah, we said. How much is it to the city centre? The taxi driver waved his thin arms and said: Well, maybe two thousand, maybe three thousand.

But we were told at the airport that it was only one thousand, Inno said. Yes, but when it's two people, it's two thousand, the driver with a shining face protested. "And you have luggage". Was not in the mood of protesting. Still jetlagged from the Big Trip. Kinda irritated cause JatAir left our luggage to Frankfurt. All my beautiful dresses. Gave the taxi driver 30 euros and got out of the car as fast as we could. Good that he brought us to the right hotel!

Our hotel Mr President is lovely. Quite quirky but i do love quirky. It is a design hotel and has lots of paintings and sculptures. The bed is comfy and there's a flat-screen tv in the room. The bathroom is also very nice, they have their own little design amenities. And the breakfast! Not like Hilton's boring potatos and scrambled eggs but some really tasty veggy stuff and also olives. Real classy. Definitely worth a second stay this Mr President and NB! Conde Nast should pay a visit!!

The concert, the concert, the concert. Lots of gay-people obviously. I noticed that gays liked either gay-songs (eg where there's a gayish man wearing a tight shirt and singing like he'd swallowed a big ball of helium, eg squeaking like a mouse) or ladydomina-style songs where you have a dominant woman showing men their place. Inno said that gays like powerful women. For example his exwife, Kroonika's ex editor-in-chief Ingrid Tähismaa was very powerful and very formidable and gays wanted to lick her toes. For example one of estonian leading gays, journalist of Schibsted's Postimees Andri Maimets was like Ingrid's very own Cerberus; whenever someone would attack Ingrid, Andri would come and rescue her like a night in shining armor. Lately however Andri's mood has changed dramatically. As soon as Ingrid got the boot from Schibsted, Andri abandoned her and even criticized his former idol when she tried to make her own show in the tv. What you gonna do, gays like glamor, they live and breathe glamor, so if you haven't got glamor, you can stop counting on gays.

Our estonian Crazyradio didn't do well, we didn't get to the finals but that's not our fault cause some crazy fool got our team a hotel where they couldn't sleep, the air conditioning was not working and some construction work was going on behind the windows and in the end they lost their voices. It's a shame they didn't stay in Mr President!

But my very own favorite, Finland's Teräsbetoni did make it to the finals and i'm so happy! Sillä lailla, Suomi, ja sitten seuraavat viisut onkin Helsinkissä! Real man power. The gays didn't like the song at all but i can understand that. It reminds them of something they want to forget.
